Motion Gohn, Sumy second, to enter into closed session for matters of hiring, firing, disciplining or promotion of MSHSAA employees where personal information about an employee may be discussed or recorded. Section 610.021(3) R.S.Mo. Motion passed 7-0 on a roll call vote with members Dorson, Sumy, Richards, Gohn, Brown, Kinder and Edwards voting yes.

Motion Gohn, Edwards second, to return to open session. Motion passed by roll call vote by a vote of 7-0 with members Dorson, Sumy, Richards, Gohn, Brown, Kinder and Edwards voting yes.

Staff members Kindhart and Long presented an updated proposal from TEAM Sports in Independence.  TEAM is proposing the creation of a potential cable network across Missouri to televise a series of 27 state championship events on a delayed basis.  By consensus, the Board determined that there was an interest in pursuing this agreement and requested that Rick Cole from TEAM Sports be present at the November Board meeting to present his proposal and be available for any questions.  No action was taken.

The following action was reported out of closed session.

Motion Sumy, second Kinder, to offer the position of MSHSAA executive director to Kerwin Urhahn and employment to begin on July 1, 2006. Motion passed 7-0 on a roll call vote with members Dorson, Sumy, Richards, Gohn, Brown, Kinder and Edwards voting yes.

Motion Sumy, second Kinder to provide actual moving expenses for the new executive director up to $5,000. Motion passed 7-0 on a roll call vote with members Dorson, Sumy, Richards, Gohn, Brown, Kinder and Edwards voting yes.

Motion Kinder, Edwards second, that Becky Oakes be paid through January 31, 2006, but be excused of the day to day operations as of December 2, 2005. However will be on call for emergencies.

Motion Kinder, Gohn second, that the new executive director assign a person to be in charge of the day to day operations and that stipends for the staff be available by Board approval. Motion passed 7-0 on a roll call vote with Dorson, Sumy, Richards, Gohn, Brown, Kinder and Edwards voting yes.

Craig Long, of MSHSAA staff was confirmed as coordinator of office operations at the departure of Oakes and entry of employment with Urhahn.
