MSHSAA Announces Retirement of Senior Associate Executive Director Stacy Schroeder and Assistant Executive Director Marty Marsh
COLUMBIA – The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) would like to announce the upcoming retirements of two dedicated leaders who have made significant contributions to the association and to Missouri's member schools. Senior Associate Executive Director Stacy Schroeder and Assistant Executive Director Marty Marsh will both retire in the summer of 2025 after long and impactful careers with MSHSAA.
Stacy Schroeder, MSHSAA's Senior Associate Executive Director, will conclude her distinguished career on July 31, 2025. Schroeder began her tenure with MSHSAA in 1994 and has since played an instrumental role in shaping numerous programs and policies over her 31 years of service.
“I have been very lucky to have had the chance to work with three exceptional executive directors – Becky Oakes for 12 years, Dr. Kerwin Urhahn for 16 years, and now Dr. Jennifer Rukstad for three years,” Schroeder said. “MSHSAA has been so fortunate to have had such outstanding leadership throughout its history.”
Schroeder’s extensive contributions have included overseeing sports such as Volleyball, Swimming & Diving, and Scholar Bowl, among others. Her expertise in eligibility interpretations and handbook preparation has been invaluable to MSHSAA’s member schools. She has also directed personnel management, school membership and classification, and numerous other critical functions within the association. Her leadership extended to national roles, including serving on multiple National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Committees.
“Stacy Schroeder has served the association and our member schools as well as anyone in its history,” MSHSAA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Rukstad said. “Her calm and measured approach to every issue she encounters has been a great help to so many. She is irreplaceable, and we wish her a great retirement.”
Assistant Executive Director Marty Marsh will retire from his role effective June 30, 2025. Marsh joined MSHSAA in 2020, fulfilling a long-held dream to serve Missouri’s schools through education-based athletics and activities. Over the past four years, he has been instrumental in directing several sports and activities, including Softball, Soccer, Speech & Debate, and Theatre.
"The past four years have been the pinnacle of my professional career, serving the member schools, their students, coaches/directors, and administrators, while working beside the amazing MSHSAA staff led by Dr. Kerwin Urhahn and Dr. Jennifer Rukstad," Marsh said. "The memories I hold, and the friendships I’ve developed, will be cherished for the remainder of my life."
Marsh has led key initiatives, including the transition of Speech & Debate and Theatre into two separate activities and the redesign of the Student Advisory Committee.
“Our member schools have benefited a great deal from Marty Marsh's four-year service to MSHSAA as an assistant executive director,” Dr. Rukstad said. “His professionalism and attention to detail have made the championship events he oversees top-notch.”
The hiring process to replace Marsh will begin in the coming days, and MSHSAA is committed to finding candidates who will carry on the legacy of service and excellence demonstrated by both Marsh and Schroeder.
